FX is bringing audiences a fresh blend of crime, comedy, and suspense with its latest original series,

The Lowdown. Set in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the show is directed by Sterlin Harjo and stars Academy Award-nominated actor Ethan Hawke in a role critics are already calling one of his most intriguing performances.

    What Is The Lowdown About?

At the center of the series is Lee Raybon (played by Hawke), a citizen journalist and self-described “truthstorian” who operates out of a small bookstore. Far from a polished investigator, Raybon is messy, obsessive, and deeply committed to exposing corruption in his community.

Speaking on Good Morning America, Hawke described his character as a “hot mess,” explaining:

“He is obsessed with trying to tell our collective stories and uncovering what the truth really is.”

The drama pits Raybon against the powerful Washberg family, who view his constant amateur sleuthing as a dangerous nuisance. His investigations threaten to uncover dark secrets, hidden tunnels, stolen art, and political scandals that could shake the state’s elite.

    When Does The Lowdown Premiere?

The first two episodes of The Lowdown premiere Tuesday, September 23 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on FX, with each new episode available to stream the following day on Hulu.

    Season length: 8 episodes

International release: Available on Disney+ outside the U.S.

Disney Bundle users: Can also stream via Hulu on Disney+

If the trailer is any indication, Ethan Hawke’s Lee Raybon is a fascinating mix of Jeff Bridges’ iconic The Dude from The Big Lebowski and Robert De Niro’s Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver.
