Petrol Price to drop in Pakistan Today
ISLAMABAD: A recommendation has been forwarded to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to reduce petrol prices in the country, as reported by NewsFastTv. Sources indicate that the proposal includes a reduction of Rs 8.27 per litre in petrol prices, which would set the new rate at Rs 246.36 per litre.

Alongside the proposed cut in petrol prices, a decrease of Rs 6.96 per litre for high-speed diesel has also been suggested, adjusting its price to Rs 251.68 per litre.
Likewise, a reduction of Rs 7.21 per litre is anticipated for both light diesel and kerosene oil. The final decision regarding the fuel price changes rests with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. If the proposal is approved, it will provide significant relief to the public amid ongoing inflation.
Petroleum Levy
Previous reports indicated that around Rs 107.12 per litre is being charged on petrol in the form of taxes, duties, and margins, as stated in official documents. For high-speed diesel, the total amount charged under the same categories is Rs 104.59 per litre, based on the records.
A petroleum levy of Rs 70 per litre is currently imposed on both petrol and high-speed diesel – the highest such levy ever recorded in the country’s history.

Freight Equalization Margin (IFEM)
In addition, a customs duty of Rs 15.28 is applied to each litre of petrol, while high-speed diesel carries a customs duty of Rs 15.78 per litre.Dealers receive a commission of Rs 8.64 for every liter of petrol and high-speed diesel sold.
Meanwhile, oil marketing companies are receiving a margin of Rs 7.87 per litre for both fuels. According to the documents, Rs 5.33 per litre is charged under the Inland Freight Equalization Margin (IFEM) for petrol and Rs 2.30 per litre for high-speed diesel under the same category.
The ex-refinery price of petrol, excluding taxes or extra charges, is Rs 148.51 per litre, while consumers are paying Rs 255.63 per litre at the pump. Similarly , high-speed diesel has an ex-refinery rate of Rs 154.06 per litre but is being sold to the public at Rs 258.64 per litre.
