Javelin gold Arshad Nadeem at Asian Athletics Championship
Pakistan’s leading javelin thrower, Arshad Nadeem, secured the gold medal in the men’s javelin final at the Asian Athletics Championship in Gumi, South Korea, becoming the new Asian champion.
India’s Sachin Yadav won the silver medal with a personal best throw of 85.16 meters, while Japan’s Yuta Sakiyama secured the bronze with a distance of 83.75 meters.

Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, who initially led the competition, narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing in fourth place with a throw of 83.27 meters.
The 27-year-old athlete from Mian Channu began the final with a modest performance, recording throws of 75.64 meters and 76.80 meters in his first two attempts. He significantly improved on his third try, reaching 85.57 meters, and followed up with consistent throws of 83.99 meters and 83.44 meters.
In the final round, Nadeem demonstrated his trademark poise and power, delivering an impressive throw of 86.40 meters-only 32 centimeters short of the championship record of 86.72 meters.
“I felt the pressure at the beginning, but I focused on staying composed and relied on my training,” Arshad shared with reporters after the event. Winning the gold medal for Pakistan at this level is incredibly meaningful to me.
Steady start, spectacular finish
Arshad began the final with a relatively modest throw of 75.64 meters, placing him sixth among the 12 competitors after the first round. Japan’s athlete achieved a throw of 76.45 meters, Sri Lanka’s Ramesh Pathirega reached 81.91 meters, and India’s Yashvir Singh committed a foul on his initial attempt.
Arshad improved on his second try, achieving a throw of 76.80 meters.. The breakthrough came in the third round when he hurled the javelin to an impressive 85.57 meters – the longest distance of the competition at that stage – catapulting him into the lead.

Pakistan’s other participant, Yasir Sultan, also participated in the final but did not manage to finish among the top five His throws measured 70.53 meters, 75.39 meters, 74.50 meters, and 72.92 meters throughout the rounds.
