    NEW YORK (newsfasttv) – In only its second week on the big screen, The A Minecraft Movie has claimed the title of the highest-earning Hollywood film of 2025. The Warner Bros. adaptation of the popular video game continued its strong box office performance, pulling in an estimated $80.6 million during its second weekend, according to studio figures released Sunday. The film has already grossed over $550 million worldwide.

    • Following a global debut that more than doubled expectations with a $300 million haul, A Minecraft Movie has continued to attract viewers at a pace unmatched by any other film this year.

    Helmed by Jared Hess and starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa, the film saw a 50% decline in ticket sales in its second weekend. theaters across the U.S. and Canada – a solid performance considering its massive opening. Despite receiving a lukewarm 46% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a decent “B+” CinemaScore from audiences, the film has clearly resonated with viewers. Its success reflects a growing trend of enthusiasm for big-budget A Minecraft Movie based on popular video games.

    Legendary Entertainment

    With a production budget of $150 million, A Minecraft Movie – a joint venture between Warner Bros. Legendary Entertainment has given the box office a vital boost following a sluggish start to the year. According to Comscore, overall ticket revenue for the weekend was twice as high as the same period in 2024. Prior to the film’s release, box office earnings were lagging 11% behind last year’s numbers, but they have now nearly caught up.

    However, 2025’s total box office still remains 31% below 2019 levels.

    None of the new releases this weekend – including Angel Studios’ The King of Kings, Disney’s The Amateur, Universal’s Drop, and A24’s Warfare – were able to rival Minecraft. However, several films surpassed expectations. few titles exceeded box office expectations.

    King of Kings

    The King of Kings, an animated retelling of the life of Jesus aimed at Christian audiences, secured the second spot with $19.1 million across 3,200 theaters. Loosely inspired by a children’s book by Charles Dickens, the film boasts an impressive voice cast, including Oscar Isaac, Kenneth Branagh, and Uma Thurman.

    Receiving a strong “A+” CinemaScore from viewers, The King of Kings is set to gain momentum in the coming week, especially as Easter approaches. At the same time, part three of Fathom Entertainment’s TV series, The Chosen: Last Supper, also targeting Christian audiences, earned $6.2 million from 2,296 theaters.

    20th Century

    The Amateur, a A Minecraft Movie 20th Century production starring Rami Malek as a CIA cryptographer seeking vengeance for his wife’s death, opened to $15 million domestically, along with an additional $17.2 million internationally. Critics, however, described the film as an uncomfortable star vehicle for Malek, who also took on the role of producer. With a production budget of $60 million, The Amateur had a solid yet mixed reception.

    Civil War in 2024

    Warfare, the latest film from director Alex Garland, who also directed Civil War in 2024, opened with $8.3 million from 2,670 theaters. Garland co-wrote and co-directed the A24 release with Iraq War veteran Ray Mendoza, who based the film on a mission from 2006 that he and his fellow Navy SEALs accomplished during the war. With a budget of approximately $20 million, Warfare received acclaim from critics for its unusually realistic portrayal of combat.

    Drop, the newest thriller from Blumhouse Productions, earned $7.5 million from 3,085 theaters during its opening weekend. Directed by Christopher Landon, the film stars Meghann Fahy (from The White Lotus) as a widowed single mother on a first date with Brandon Sklenar’s character, only to find She is being tormented by an unknown individual sending messages to her phone Premiering at SXSW, Drop had a production budget of under $10 million.

    With final domestic numbers released on Monday, the list below reflects the estimated ticket sales from Friday through Sunday in U.S. and Canadian theaters, as reported by Comscore:
